Apprentice & Supervisor Training

Summer 2021 apprentice and supervisor training.

Brief Description of the Summer Training

CareerWise will be delivering workplace preparation and apprentice management tips during Bootcamp Training this summer. These structured, virtual trainings are meant to prepare your apprentice for their role within your organization and help them hit the ground running.  Some of the trainings are mandatory to attend and one is a free optional upskilling opportunity for the apprentices. Each one has a unique purpose and will be a mixture of CareerWise learning-management modules and Zoom meetings. Bootcamp Basics

Bootcamp Basics is a mandatory training period for ALL new apprentices. This training is set in two segments. The first will be asynchronous training through CareerWise’s learning management system, and the second will be synchronous training facilitated through Zoom.

What you can expect
After completing this training your apprentice will be increasingly familiar with the expectations of the workplace, and how those expectations differ from the school environment. They will understand the apprenticeship program and what is expected of them at each stage and will have coaching on how to seek and respond to constructive criticism.

In addition to Bootcamp Basics, employers have the option of enrolling their apprentice(s) in Bootcamp Extensions and can choose from Workplace Essentials OR Technical Training, depending on which best fits their needs.

Important Dates
May 15th: Bootcamp Basics online modules will be available.

June 14 – 16 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm: Webinar sessions with all new apprentices and CareerWise staff members.

Cost
None, though some employers may choose to pay wages.

How to Register for the Training?
Apprentices will be able to register through the Apprenticeship Hub when they are hired by an employer.

Workplace Essentials

Workplace Essentials is highly suggested for new apprentices, or second- or third-year apprentices who may benefit from additional support. This goal of Workplace Essentials is to go deeper into the skills necessary to thrive in the workplace. Topics may include organization, punctuality, office correspondence, and more.

The majority of this training will be facilitated via live webinar, hosted by CareerWise staff. Workplace Essentials will be a highly structured training in order to provide apprentices consistent feedback and accountability to stay on track to prepare for their employment.

What you can expect
After completing this training your apprentice will be prepared to utilize common software systems such as Microsoft, Slack, online timesheets, etc. They will be prepared to engage productively in meetings and email communication. They will have tools and methodologies to support their success in managing their professional responsibilities and time.

Important Dates
July 7 through August 12th :
Monday – Thursday each day from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Cost
Hourly apprentice wages for up to 66 hours of work (<$1,000 for most employers).

How to Register for the Training?
Supervisors have the opportunity to register through the Supervisor Hub for their apprentices. If you need additional support you can contact a CareerWise staff member.

Technical Training

Technical Training is meant to give apprentices a head-start on more specific/specialized workplace tasks in order to quickly contribute to their team. For example, if an apprentice is working in a marketing role, they may take an online training course which will guide them through the basics of social media marketing.

After a consultation with you about your needs for the position, CareerWise will create a customized syllabus comprised of online courses focused on the technical skills most essential for your role. Depending on the occupation, apprentices can complete required coursework to pass an industry credential exam.

The best part? It’s custom to YOUR apprentice. A CareerWise staff member will be in touch with your organization to create an individualized learning plan for your apprentice after you enroll your apprentice. If you’re interested in technical training for your apprentice, let them know.

What you can expect
Apprentices will develop knowledge and technical skill in the targeted areas most important to your company. The descriptions for the individual courses assigned to your apprentice will be provided to you, so you can see exactly what content is covered.
